Second Skills Improvement Session at La Posada Bowling Club

Feb. 2012 - La Posada BC

Report by John Carr.

At the invitation of Eileen Alves, Club Captain, John Carr, Coordinator for Malaga province Instructors Group, ran the first session in July 2011 of intensive training for bowlers at the recently opened La Posada BC, situated near Antequera. As a follow up, Eileen asked John to return in February, 2012, for a one day session, concentrating on the delivery action.

John repeated some of the standard drills he introduced in the first session, including, Casting the Jack, Improving Weight & Improving Line, but during the sessions took the opportunity to study individual actions, suggesting improvements where appropriate. This procedure appeared to work well in situations where the group is too large for isolated individual coaching. The other advantage was that the technique avoided too much obvious focus on one person in a group, which can be intimidating. The participants appeared to accept recommendations with enthusiasm, with many demonstrating immediate improvement.

At the close of the session, Eileen thanked John for attending the exercise and John congratulated La Posada on their continuing development.

On a related subject, Eileen expressed a requirement for Umpiring training at the club. John agreed to raise the matter with the Malaga provincial Umpiring & Markers group.
