Santa Maria Open

4s  Semi Final: Malcolm Greenwood’s captain of the team from Benavista  had a runaway start against the team from Superbowl lead by their team captain, Gordon Kain, Benavista lead 14 –0 before Superbowl could start to reply, but Benavista kept the lead and won 21-9.

4s  Semi Final: Santa Maria  Hal Briscoe’s team started well against Linda Hall’s team from Mijas taking control all through the game coming out winners on the 16th end when Linda’s team  retired 19-10.

Trips  semi Final: Rob Robinson’ team from Mijas were drawn against Linda Hall rival team from the same club,  the Halls were leading right up to the 16th end when rob Robinson’s team drew level going into the last end, it all hinged on the last bowl of the game from Rob who drew in to win the game 14-13.

Trips semi Final: between  Ken Mc Bride team from Benavista & Craig Lewis  team from Superbowl,   Superbowl had a slow start but managed to pull the scores back to 6-9 on the 9th end, Ken McBride’s team turned on the pressure and came out easy winners 18-7 on the 16th end.

Pairs semi Final: Dennis Tolfree & Mary Detheridge from Superbowl overcame a strong team from the same club

Patricia & Alex Hanton it was neck and neck all the way to the 18th  end when Tolfree & Detheridge  got the telling shot to win  15-14.

Pairs semi Final: Santa Maria Team Donald & Betty Braidwood had a hard match against Tony Frowd & Colin Handley  neck & neck all the way to the final end where Tony Frowd on the last bowl drew the shot to come out as the winners 14-13.

Ladies Singles semi Final: Thrilling game between Margaret Kain (Superbowl)& Di Chambers, (Los Amigos) Di taking an early lead,  Margaret leveling on the 6th end, Di drew away with Margaret  fighting back, Di winning 21-19.

Ladies Singles semi Final: Sue Walker From Los Amigos started well against Simone Morgan (Lauro) with both playing well, Sue kept the pressure up by winning 21-13.

Men’s Singles semi Final: Mike Detheridge (Superbowl) played Chris Hussey (Santa Maria) Mike took an early lead with Chris pulling back taking the lead 8-7 on the 11th end, Mike then pulled away winning 22-9.

Men’s Singles semi Final: Paul Brown (Superbowl) Played Michael Ward (Santa Maria). Paul dominated the game from the start Michael could not find the green and Paul won 21-8.

Finals

Singles Men

Mike Detheridge played Paul Brown both started well, sharing the lead, Paul finding the green better than Mike run out the winner 22-10

Singles Ladies

Sue Walker played Di Chambers.

Di Chambers took an early lead, Sue Walker started to find the green with some very tight heads took the lead and run out the winner 21-13.

Pairs

Dennis Tolfree & Mary Detheridge played Tony Frowd & Colin Handley with Mary & Dennis making all the running playing well winning 17-7.

Trips

Geraldine & Rob Robinson & Franco Tinelli  played Ken McBride, Mike Old, Brenda Powell, both teams playing well with Ken Mc Brides team from Benavista running out winners, 17-11.

4s

Hal & June Briscoe, Peter & Val Allard played Malcolm Greenwood, Wendy Pemberton, Denis King, Sandy Guthrie, Santa Maria playing well  at the start, gave away a hot shot on the 6th end to Malcolm Greenwood’s team came back to level the scores, a very tight match going one way the other. Then Hal’s team took control and run out winners, Malcolm Greenwood’s team resigned 17- 25.
