Mijas Club Competitions
March 2017 - Mijas BC
Report by Chris Wilson & photos by Eric Wilson, text editing by Amber Dineen & John Carr.
The Club competitions were held over a number of weeks in the hope that it would be possible to hold the semi-finals and finals over a two day period but that was not to be as the same names were appearing in more than one discipline. However, winners were finally found.
The Ladies' Singles winner was Val Thornton who beat Jennie Parkin quite convincingly; the Men's Singles was won by Dave Wilson against Tony Barnes. Tony was stuck on 18 for several ends and was unable to move off it, giving Dave the chance to creep ahead. Val and Dave have represented Mijas in the Champion of Champions, during this last week. Unfortunately neither of them was a winner but they both did very well.
The Handicap Singles, this year played as a “roving jack” competition, was won by Peter Allard, leaving Tony Thornton the runner-up. Talk about a game of two halves, Peter was 15 – 3 up at one stage, but Tony gradually caught up until they were 20 all. Peter scored the necessary point on the last end. Sadly Peter was not able to be present at the prize-giving.
In the Drawn Pairs Tony Thornton and Carol Wright were beaten in the final by Robert Wright and Geoff Collins. The Drawn Triples result was a win for Tony Thornton, Robert Wright and Stuart Parkin over Barbara Land, Geoff Collins and Frank Richardson. Barbara Land was unable to be at the presentation.
The prize-giving took place on in the clubhouse after a buffet lunch prepared by Carol Wright.
