Success For Local Clubs at Indalo Invitation Rinks 2017

128 bowlers from England, Wales and seven different clubs throughout the Andalucian Region competed in this very popular four day competition at Indalo Bowling Club. Many players return year after year to play and meet up again with old friends and rivals.

This event is played in four groups of 8 teams, with the four group winners then progressing to contest the semi-finals.

After some very rowdy and hotly contested matches, the first semi-final was played between the team of Dennis Leigh, Sheila Allen and Keith and Linda Lester, from local clubs Indalo BC and Cabrera BC, versus Reg Birmingham, John Burgess and Graham and Cath Patrick from another local club Almeria BC. Dennisí team played a really professional match and won 14 to 4.

The second semi-final was played between the teams of Allan and Ann Reynolds and Rod and Linda Band from Indalo BC and Cabrera BC versus Jan Dando, Paul and Judy Abel and Leighton John from Indalo BC and Cabrera BC. This was a much closer match but after a really tussle Janís team won 15 to11.

Both losing semi-finalists then played off for third and fourth place which was won by Reg Birminghamís team 14 to 6.

Onto the final and after the first two ends the scores were level at 1-1 and everyone thought it was going to be a very close contest. Unfortunately Janís team dropped consecutive fives in the next two ends which literally ended their hopes of winning the final with Dennisí team never giving up their advantage. They deservedly went on to win 21-7.

The Trophy was present by Quentin Sellar from Blacktower Finance who sponsored this event.

Staging a competition of this magnitude needs many volunteers from the host club and many thanks must go to John Colquhoun the Competition Secretary. The wonderful catering throughout the weekend was supplied by Babs Davies and her team of ladies who served up a wonderful selection of food every day and to Debbie Colquhoun and her faithful helpers running a very busy bar.

All visiting teams thoroughly enjoyed the competition and many have left entries for next year.
