 Mijas BC Open Day

Sept. 2018 - Mijas BC

Report by John Wilson, photo editing  by John Carr.

Mijas Lawn Bowls Club (MLBC) Open day 2nd October 2018

Its always a wonderful sight to see a full green enjoying friendly competition and companionship and with the back drop of the refurbished club house and Mijas Pueblo it can only get better.

A total of 48 representatives from the other Andalucia Bowling clubs as well as the members of MLBC attended were welcomed to the official opening of the refurbished green and facilities at Mijas Lawn Bowls Club buy acting President Robert Wright. The cutting of the ribbon to the green was performed by April Attenbourgh, (longest serving member), Pam Cole, (Long term services to MLBC) and John Carr, (Green renovation support).

The visitors enjoyed play in three mini fun sessions each player able to test the performance of half of the playing surface. The new covered viewing area along the riverside provided a welcome shade and channelled what breeze there was into the spectators. The visitors sampled and enjoyed the pre and post/game hospitality provided by the MLBC members under the Stewardship of Carol Wright and Pauline Ward with the support of the members.

Based on the positive comments from some of the coasts most experienced and best players it looks like the “friendly club” will also be known for having one of, if not the best bowling surface, in Spain. MLBC is seeing a significant increase in membership numbers for the upcoming season and the future of Lawn Bowls on the Costa Del Sol is secure for the foreseeable future.

However, they will provide a warm welcome to new or experienced bowlers visiting the club for the day or short term memberships or as part of a touring group.
