URGENT - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Hello to my fellow Co-ordinators.

In the sections below there is some important information which, in some cases, may require your immediate attention.

1. MIJAS LAWN BOWLS CLUB :-

Yesterday evening I had a lengthy, constructive conversation with Geoff Collins, the President of Mijas Lawn Bowls Club. Sadly he advised that Mijas are unable to field a Team in the Lions' League for the 2017/18 Season. A combination of factors have left them short on numbers particularly in the period leading up to Christmas. The reason for this somewhat late decision is because the Club had been attempting to "broker a deal" with Lauro Golf to enter a "hybrid" Team along the lines of the
successful Benalplayas several years ago when Benalmadena and Belplaya joined forces for one year to overcome short-term problems the latter Club was having at the time.

However, this attempt failed early this week but, on a personal note, I should like to thank Roberto, Geoff and Paul Hughes for their efforts as well as those of Ron Jones and Barbara Land, senior Officials within the FAB Malaga Delegation. Thankfully, despite their somewhat limited resources, Mijas has elected to enter a Team in the League Cup and I'm sure we all welcome that decision.

2. LIONS' LEAGUE REPLACEMENT TEAM :-

Everyone is well aware that the new League Season starts this Friday, 13 October. With Mijas' withdrawal there is an opportunity for another Club to enter an additional Team should they choose to do so. However there are parameters as the replacement team MUST directly take over the Mijas fixtures i.e. there must be no change of dates. Home and Away Matches must be played as scheduled but, in the event of two Home Matches resulting on the same day, the start times may be staggered accordingly e.g. start in the morning at 10.30 and in the afternoon at 14.00 as Benavista do when they host 2 x Matches on the same day.

IF ANY CLUB WISHES TO TAKE UP THE OPTION PLEASE ADVISE BY TELEPHONE OR EMAIL NOT LATER THAN 20.00 ON WEDNESDAY EVENING. If no Club comes forward I will revert to Option 3
below.

3. LIONS' LEAGUE WITH 8 TEAMS :-

There are three options available as outlined below :-

3.1. We can completely re-structure the League to remove any Byes caused by Mijas' withdrawal running from 13 October - 24 November and 12 January - 2 March.

3.2. We can delay the start until 20 October and, as in 3.1., remove any Byes i.e. the Season will run from 20 October - 1 December and 19 January - 9 March.

3.3. We can leave the Fixtures as they are currently scheduled and, when a Club is scheduled to play Mijas Lions, that Club Team will have a Bye on that day.

3.4. Observations :-

When I prepared the Fixtures with 9 x Teams in each League I made every effort for Clubs ( other than Benavista for obvious reasons ) not to host more than one fixture on the same day. This was, in the main, achieved and fixtures in both Leagues were evenly balanced. However, I've looked at Options 1 and 2 very carefully and there will be problems as, in order to maintain the aforementioned policy, there would be a total imbalance of fixtures for some Clubs with a number having to host more than one on the same day on more than one occasion. This is a major problem for those Clubs with less than 8 Rinks and for those with restricted access to their Greens. Please remember that I have looked at the global picture and not
just for individual Teams - if you take the latter option you may not envisage a problem!

Barbara Land and myself, as a result of the concerns outlined above, therefore favour Option 3.3. This maintains the Home and Away balance and, whilst Byes are not ideal, it does provide the opportunity for those Clubs with a FREE Friday to play a friendly Match against Mijas Members should the two Clubs be agreeable ( the 7Ä League Green Fee would apply ). Geoff Collins has said that Mijas would appreciate this opportunity on occasions.

4. LEAGUE CUP :-

Thanks to Mijas we have 8 x Teams in the 2017/18 Competition which means a straight knock-out from the Quarter-Finals with NO Byes or Preliminary Matches. Saydo Bowls Club were the Club who chose not to enter as it is their first Season of competitive Bowling. Hopefully next Season they will choose to enter.

I have previously advised details of the Draw which I will circularise with the League Results this weekend.

CLOSING COMMENTS :-

If any Club has any violent objections to Option 3.3. being adopted please advise by return. If I donít hear anything by 20.00 tomorrow this option will be implemented and the Lionsí League Season will commence as scheduled this coming Friday.

If any Club does wish to take up the option of entering an additional Team then please contact me as per the timeline above. Please remember ďitís first come, first servedĒ!!!!!!!

Many thanks everyone for reading this extensive missive. Iím sure youíll agree the importance of going into detail as everyone should be aware of the facts as they are.

Regards to you all.
